With Law 4622/2019 on the Organization, Operation and Transparency of the Government, Government Institutions and Central Government Administration, Greece established an Independent Authority with anti-corruption mandate, the National Transparency Authority (hereinafter NTA, or the Authority), with key tasks to enhance integrity, transparency, and accountability in the action of public institutions, prevent, detect, and respond to fraud and corruption in public and private bodies and organizations, achieve measurable results in the fight against corruption, and raise awareness regarding these actions. The Authority’s institutional framework is addressed in articles 82-103 and 118-119 of said Law. NTA adopts a three-pronged strategy to fight corruption: Detection, Prevention and Raise Awareness, allowing for a holistic and systematic approach. The core of the competences of the NTA is based on the need to enhance citizens’ trust in public institutions. To this end, the Authority takes initiatives aimed at educating youth and involving society in the fight against corruption. The strategic objective of the Authority is to develop and implement a coherent anti-corruption policy framework based on international recommendations and good practices, which is not limited to identifying and addressing corruption, but also extends to the areas of prevention and raising awareness in society. The Authority is competent for the monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) 2022-2025.
